Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated instructor to teach GED students in either Math & Science or English & Social Studies. This role involves working closely with the Student Retention & Basic Skills Specialist to ensure that students' academic needs are met through thorough record-keeping of their progress, including test results, subject gains, and attendance. The instructor will be responsible for planning lessons, managing records, answering student inquiries (via email and phone), grading assignments, and providing constructive feedback. Additional duties include composing course outlines and syllabi, and actively collaborating with the Student Retention & Basic Skills Specialist to connect students with opportunities that align with their post-GED goals.
Teaching hours will primarily be in the mornings and afternoons, with the possibility of evening and weekend shifts in the future, depending on community and student needs. Instruction may be delivered through various formats such as synchronous, or remote classes via platforms like Zoom. Throughout this position, the instructor will promote inclusion and demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity by valuing differences and upholding the organization's guiding principles.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans for GED students in either Math & Science or English & Social Studies.
Maintain accurate records of student performance, including test results, attendance, and subject gains.
Provide timely responses to student questions and concerns via email and phone.
Grade assignments and provide constructive feedback that supports student growth.
Create and maintain course outlines and syllabi.
Work collaboratively with the Student Retention & Basic Skills Specialist to ensure students have the resources and support they need, including exploring opportunities for further education or career advancement after completing their GED.
Participate in ongoing communication and collaboration with colleagues and specialists.
Contribute to an inclusive, respectful learning environment, ensuring all students feel valued and supported.
Required Qualifications:
Associate's degree in adult education or a related field from an accredited institution.
At least two years of experience teaching high school equivalency preparation (such as GED or HiSET) or in a similar educational setting.
Proficiency with technology, including the MS Office Suite, Zoom, and Learning Management Systems.
Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with diverse, at-risk populations.
A willingness to cross-train for other teaching positions in the GED/ESL program.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or higher in adult education or a related field.
Bilingual abilities, particularly in Spanish or Somali.
Adult Basic Education Authorization (ABEA) from the Colorado Department of Education, or willingness to obtain it within three years.
Extensive experience teaching in diverse modalities (in-person, hybrid, and remote) to varied student populations.
A demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion within the educational environment.
Salary and Benefits:
Salary range: $31.06 - $33.76 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.
This position is not eligible for a benefits package. Employees must be at least 0.75 FTE to qualify for the Colorado Community College System benefits package.
Sick leave is accrued in accordance with the Healthy Families and Workplaces Act.
No relocation assistance is provided.
Selection Process:
Candidates will be evaluated based on their qualifications and experience in relation to the responsibilities of the position. Finalists will be invited to interview with the selection committee, and applicants may be required to travel at their own expense for the interview.
