The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. Job Summary
Responsible for the day-to-day administration of DMACC’s public relations program that includes promoting and managing the reputation and image of the college. The position will use all forms of media and communications channels monitoring trends and best practices of current PR principals.
Essential Functions
Lead and manage the College’s external PR activities that result in a positive reputation for the College, through: being a leader in developing PR strategy, researching and writing stories, including news releases, public service announcements, feature stories, web articles and other promotions generating campus and college-wide stories, pitch stories to broadcast, print, web, trade and national media when applicable. Establish and maintain strong relationships with web, print and broadcast media and be sensitive to their needs/deadlines. Assure that all appropriate media and DMACC interests are served.
Coordinate internal communications that includes tactics to support strong one-College brand; including the DMACC Daily, campus communications to staff and faculty, populate stories on the marketing website.
Contribute to Twitter, DMACC’s official social media channel for news and announcements and contribute to news shared on DMACC’s LinkedIn page. Responsibilities include posting to this communications channel for news and announcements, growing opinion leader relationships on this channel and when possible engaging reaction and monitoring.
Provide PR counsel to programs and departments across the College who want to make a public announcement or improve enrollment through PR. This includes coordinating media visits/contacts with College representatives by scheduling interviews, identifying participants and preparing background/ information materials for reporters. This also includes managing DMACC’s speaker’s bureau.
Manage media and PR tracking by having the media lists updated, providing PR value reports, helping to manage DMACC’s PR photo archive system, etc. Meet and collaborate with digital content coordinator. Stay current on latest PR/media relations trends and techniques.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, mass communications, public relations or marketing.
Three years of broadcast/print news reporting or public relations experience in PR agency or corporate PR.
Strong writing and proofreading skills and a working knowledge of news profession.
Knowledge of AP (Associated Press) Style.
Experience utilizing Adobe Photoshop.
Photo experience, including traditional digital camera and mobile devices.
Ability to plan, organize and manage time.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a professional working relationship with a wide variety of individuals coming from diverse backgrounds.
Knowledge of current social media and media monitoring software applications.
Desired Qualifications
Master’s degree in communications related field.
APR industry designation.
Demonstrated ability to function autonomously with minimal supervision.
